In this guide: Before selling a laptop, protect your personal data and agree on the device condition and price. A simple checklist reduces disputes and helps both sides understand what is included.
Back up and remove personal data
Copy files you need and verify the backup. Sign out of cloud and app accounts, remove the device from account lists, then use the operating system reset or secure erase process appropriate to its storage. Remove saved browser profiles and SIM or memory cards. Do not hand over a device that still contains private files.
Describe the condition honestly
Note model, processor, RAM, storage, battery condition, charger and known faults. Photograph the screen, body and accessories. A buyer may inspect and test the device; agree whether a fault changes the offer before the sale.
Confirm the final offer and payment
Ask how the valuation was calculated and whether inspection can change it. Get a receipt with model or serial number, agreed price, date and payment method. Verify payment in your own account before handing over the laptop. Keep a copy of the transaction record.
