Quick guide: Missing lines or weak output may need a settings check, a suitable cleaning cycle or hardware repair. Print-head replacement should not be the first assumption: the right next step depends on printer type, error message and test-page result.
Start with a built-in test page
Print the printer’s own nozzle-check or quality-test page from its control panel or official software. If that page also has missing lines, the issue is more likely in the printer or ink path than in one document. If the test page is clean, check the application, driver and print-quality settings.
Record the model, error message, and whether black, colour or all channels are affected. Keep a sample print to compare after service.
Use cleaning cycles carefully
For inkjet printers, follow the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning sequence. Repeated deep-clean cycles can consume ink and may not fix a damaged head. Do not scrape the nozzle plate or pour solvent into the printer unless the model’s service instructions specifically allow it.
Laser printer cleaning is different from inkjet nozzle cleaning. Toner, drum and contamination issues need model-appropriate diagnosis. Never touch a hot fuser or force a cartridge into place.
When to request repair
Arrange service if the built-in test remains poor after the recommended steps, the printer reports a head error, ink leaks or the device makes unusual noises. Ask whether the estimate includes diagnosis, cleaning, parts and a post-repair test page.
A Google review describes a printer-head repair at an NSP office. It is one customer’s report; the cause on another printer must be diagnosed separately.
